Playing in these divisions gives players the opportunity to play in the top grade in Victoria.
Our Goals
Yarra is ambitious about being the club of choice for players in Melbourne and being competitive in Premier League. We are a Club who is moving up: Yarra PL team had their highest finish in 2019 and the PLR team made finals for the first time. We are looking to improve on this in 2022. Unfortunately COVID meant that we did not play in 2020, and the 2021 season was cut short.
Team Culture
Culture has been a key focus over the past three seasons, with fun, enjoyment and inclusivity at the centre of what we do. All PL and PLR players, coaches and support staff agree to:
- Be supportive on and off the field
- Be committed to be successful – have a presence and play with confidence
- Take ownership of body and performance
- To a professional approach – disciplined, have respect, connect as a team and look the part
Team Coaching
PL and PLR players train twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and play once a week (February – September). There are options to play indoor and outdoor hockey in the off-season as well as join Club fitness training November – January.
Our Head Coach is a former international coach, who is supported by a reserve coach and other experts as required. The philosophy is a player-centred approach, in a safe and inclusive environment, encouraging players to take ownership of their development and be involved in decision-making to help them maximise their performance and enjoyment. The on-field sessions are complemented by an off-field program which includes but is not limited to fitness, dietician and well-being sessions as part of our ‘whole athlete’ focus.
Want to play Premier League in 2022?
Yarra is seeking additional PL and PLR players to grow the pool of players and create competition for places, in our ambitions to make finals in 2022. We welcome players from Australia and overseas. Please contact the Women's Coordinator to find out more information.
